Infant circumcision is a risky procedure and not every baby is healthy enough to be circumcised.
In our last post, we talked about things that you should know about the procedure. If you’ve weighed the pros and cons and decide that circumcision is best for your baby boy, there are some things that you should know about.
It should be performed in the first few days of your son’s life.
A medical doctor should be the one who administer the procedure, and he or she will make sure that your baby is under local anesthesia. If performed few weeks after birth, it will generally be done by a urologist under general anesthesia.
Make sure it is done by a professional.
Some religious groups have circumcision done as a ceremony, but make sure that the person in-charge is trained in the area. Some obstetricians and pediatricians are also knowledgeable in the area.
Understand the procedure of infant circumcision.
Understand the process of the circumcision. Are there any potential risks? How do you lessen the risks? How often do risks occur? How do you take care of the recently circumcised baby? Will your baby be in extreme pain?
Finding the answers to these questions will help in handling your baby after the procedure.
