The 90s was the best decade ever! It was a time of great fashion trends, music, and of course, amazing kids movies. From “Space Jam” to “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie”, here are some 90s movies that your kids would love:
1. Little Giants (1994)
Starring Rick Moranis and Ed O’Neill as brothers in a small Ohio town, “Little Giants” is a family football-themed comedy that focuses on the underdogs. Filled with humor and positive messages, this movie is sure to get your child interested in football.
2. 3 Ninjas (1992)
As its name suggests, “3 Ninjas” centers on three ninjas. The story follows three young brothers, who are trained by their Japanese grandfather in the art of Ninjutsu. While the film may pose as an “racially insensitive” film in 2017, it was the must-watch show for all kids during the 90s.
3. Newsies (1992)
Produced by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by choreographer Kenny Ortega, “Newsies” stars Christian Bale as 17-year-old Jack “Cowboy” Kelly. Loosely based on the New York City Newsboys Strike of 1899, the musical features 12 original songs. Who knew Batman can sing so well?
4. My Girl (1991)
“My Girl” is one of the most memorable kids movie in the 90s (well, for us at least!). Starring Macaulay Culkin (of “Home Alone” fame) and Anna Chlumsky, the coming-of-age film focuses on two best friends – Vada Sultenfuss, who is a hypochondriac, and Thomas J. Sennett, who is allergic to “everything”.
5. Monkey Trouble (1994)
Every kid has always wanted a pet, even though their parents won’t get them one. Directed by Franco Amurri, “Monkey Trouble” stars Thora Birch as 9-year-old Eva Gregory. Eva meets a Capuchin monkey in the park one day and decided to keep him. Things turn a little messy when the monkey’s ex-owner comes to find it.
6. The Secret Garden (1993)
“The Secret Garden” is an American-British drama fantasy film that stars Kate Maberly, Heydon Prowse, Andrew Knott, John Lynch and Maggie Smith. Based on the novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the classic tale centers around a spoiled and unpleasant 10-year old girl named Mary Lennox.
7. The Sandlot (1993)
“The Sandlot” is a baseball-themed coming-of-age movie about friendship and summer. Set during the summer of 1962, the film tells the story of a group of young baseball players as they try to retrieve something important and must face the neighborhood legend – a large dog called the Beast.
8. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)
With concepts from the Japanese Super Sentai series “Ninja Sentai Kakuranger”, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie” is the best Power Rangers movie ever made (yes, we think it’s even better that the 2017 adaption). The film sees our heroes go up against the terrifying Ivan Oozes and his evil plans to take over the world.
9. Space Jam (1996)
“What’s Up, Doc?”
Starring basketball player Michael Jordan and featuring the “Looney Tunes” cartoon characters, “Space Jam” was the IT movie of the 90s. It also marks the first appearance of new Looney Tunes character Lola Bunny (also known as Bugs Bunny’s girlfriend).
10. Blank Check (1994)
What happens when you give a kid a blank check? Starring Brian Bonsall, Disney’s “Blank Check” sees 11-year-old Preston Waters accidentally receiving a blank check from a crook. He then makes out the check for a million dollars and cashes it, living the dream life of every kid out there.
